Evening rain in Bengaluru

Bengaluru receives rain between mid-June and September. This video was taken a few days ago.

This is a part of the South-West Monsoon which sets in over Kerala (usually) on June 1. That's also the day when the new academic year begins in that State and one of the most abiding images is that of children in their new set of school uniform holding umbrellas and walking in puddles of water.

The atmospheric system moves north and during this June-September period the entire west coast, as well as some parts of the interior landmass too, get rain. Today, for example, Mumbai experienced heavy downpour leading to the suspension of public transport as well as shutting of offices.

  1. Hi Pradeep - we could do with a little of that here ... we escape the rain in Eastbourne ... it happens inland but seems to brush by us.

Did the kids go to school?

I've a friend who's a Fulbright scholar from New York ... whose father and brother and other relatives live in Mumbai - so she gives some updates ... and the brolly necessity. She's about to go back again soon ...

    Take care - Hilary

  2. Rain looks beautiful to see in this video. While watching the video I remembered a famous song "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" by BJ Thomas. It is in Youtube.

  4. I always liked the rain. But not so much walking to school in the rain.

  5. Rain in the summer... *shakes head* I can pretty much count on one hand the number of times we've had rain in the summer... for my entire life. We get rain in the winter. Climate is fascinating.

    1. Hi Yamini - Yes, generally people love the rains here, if one leaves out the occasional misery they bring in their wake. In fact, tourism picks up a bit during the rains in India, especially in Kerala.

    2. That's interesting about tourism. I'm sorry the rains turned deadly. :( Be well.

  7. I enjoy rainy days, but could do without a monsoon! I hope that everyone remains safe and well.

  8. I like the way the season changes from summer to monsoon very early in Bglore. Except a few years (like this year) monsoon sets in during Sep. or Oct. in Chennai and until then it's just plain summer here!!

  9. One thing I believe about rains is that it always comes pouring down when you forget to take your umbrella

  10. Hello, Pradeep.

Through this review I have come to understand the current climate situation in Bengaluru. This is so interesting to watch because there are weather predictions that can still be continuous yearly the rainy season continues.
In Indonesia in recent years the weather is difficult to predict the change of seasons between the dry and rainy seasons.
