(This post is part of the A to Z Challenge. I am writing this month on activities that keep me refreshed during these depressing days. It's Day 7 today.)
One of my activities to break free of monotony and stress is playing games. Nothing like a game of badminton or table tennis. They help us burn lots of calories in a short time. During my school and college days, I used to play cricket, hockey and tennis.
My earliest memories of games are of board games. As children, we used to play 'snakes and ladders' and carroms.
Now, of course, there is no dearth of games. There are plenty of them online. One can even compete with others sitting miles and miles away.
One of the simplest games I have found is Brick Classic - Brick Game.
Among the word games, Scrabble perhaps is the most popular one. Then, of course, there is Sudoku. Another one which I like is Word Connect - Word Games Puzzle. Then there is the jumbled letters game.
These games are not only pleasant distractions but also exercise for the brain. The challenge prods the grey cells into working and keep them active; thereby refreshing our mind and body.
Do you play games? If so, which are your favourite ones?

I love Sudoku. Also love to play Lambs & Tigers. It used to be played in remote villages in Tamil Nadu. (Pleasantly surprised that this has its own Wikipedia)
ReplyDeleteAt the moment, I'm above level 4000 on Candy Crush. I spend way too long playing games on my phone.
ReplyDeleteHi Pradeep - I used to love scrabble and all the games to entertain the young ... we mixed and matched. We occasionally play games ... and can do jig-saw puzzles ... but I don't have any of those here. I have a pack of cards ... but haven't used them yet. I do look at Sudoku, a crossword or the odd quiz occasionally ... take care - Hilary

ReplyDeleteOh yes, I am a fan of games that tickle the little greys!!! Particularly word games of various types; classic xwords, codifiers, searches... and, of course, Scrabble! Solitaire (cards) can be distracting, as is chess (though haven't played that for a while now). Currently, on my tablet, I have a Bubble Crusher game that does involve an element of strategy, so greatly enjoying that too... YAM xx
PS oh yes, and jigsaws! I have an online page where I set some of my photos into jigsaws... Yxx
DeleteHi Yamini - O, that is nice! I shall try out some of the games that you have mentioned.
DeleteWe used to play snakes and ladders and ludo and carom as children.
ReplyDeleteThese days, it's mostly word games when the children are at home. Bananarama is a fun one.
We used to play 'I spy' a lot when our children were little.
Hi Arti - Whether we are young or old, there are plenty of games for all of us!
DeleteScrabble- all time favourite. Love for language & new words started with Scrabble.
ReplyDeleteHi Viyoma - Yes, even for me the love for language and new words started with Scrabble.
DeleteI love scrabble, because it really makes you think. But I also love chess, probably for the same reason. I have no games at this present time unfortunately, having just changed countries with just a suitcase to my name, and no other belongings due to corona virus.

Hi Greenglobaltrek - Chess not so much of a favourite for me.
DeleteI love playing word games. I have Word Cookies on my phone which I have been playing since the last 3 years!! I play Brick Game occasionally. I have recently downloaded the Find the Difference and Brainvita.
ReplyDeleteHi Shilpa - I must try out some of the games you have mentioned. Thanks.
DeleteBoard game favorite is Scrabble. I play online now and it is called Words With Friends. Lots of board strategy games with my grown children. Before lockdown they came over 2-3 times a month and we'd play games for hours. Our current favorite strategy board game is Talisman.
ReplyDeleteHi Jade - I haven't heard of Talisman. Must try it out. Thanks.
