Days have been so hectic that blogs have taken a backseat. Got a day off today after nearly two weeks. During these days, I neither posted anything nor checked any post of my favourite bloggers. Will catch up soon.
Just as we are planning to go back to full-attendance in the office from December 1, emerges Omicron. Early days still. We only know that this variant has an unusually large number of mutations. We will get a clearer picture in the next week or so.
But borders are slamming shut again. It's at best a temporary measure, that will help slow down the spread of virus.
One day before Omicron was identified, India had announced that normal commercial flights will resume on December 15. Now, the plan has been revised, and a whole lot of regulations have been put in place for fliers from abroad from Dec 1. Even within India, states are making testing compulsory from travellers from some states where the numbers are high.
It will be too unrealistic to believe that one day Omicron won't surface in India. We have been doing extremely well with vaccinations, and our only hope is that the vaccine will be good against Omicron, at least keep the infection mild.

ReplyDeleteIt's all a bit ... exasperating, heh na? The UK gov is completely flunking again - but don't get me started on that. Just glad to see you on screen again! YAM xx
Hi Yamini - Thanks alot! :-) To be fair to them, governments all over the world have a tough time. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.
DeleteHere, Delhi state government had protested when Singapore had banned flights originating from Delhi during the peak of 2nd wave.
Now Delhi Chief Minister is asking the Union government to ban all flights from South Africa!
Vaccine is the only way forward. But that's also a work in progress!
Yeah, I hope the vaccines continue to do the job. If we could just get this thing under control, these variants would stop popping up. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteVery frustrating. As I wrote in another post of yours, wearing a face mask, and annual covid/omicron vaccination (ala flu) will become a way of life.
ReplyDeleteHi Pradeep - glad you've been busy even if you can't get here as often as you'd like. Life goes on - as soon as we think life is easier ... another 'little bug' will arrive and create havoc. I do feel for so many - but won't get dragged into the morass of commenting much. Take care and see you around - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHi Pradeep - this covid thing is never ending and I don't think any govt can stop it - short of cutting themselves off completely like our govt has done - but that just delays the inevitable. I think Australia will open its borders over the next couple of months and we'll be inundated with all kinds of covid strains - and we'll deal with it because there's no other solution. I hope you guys stay safe in the meantime.
ReplyDeleteHi Leanne - Yes, we have to live with the virus, until the last one is banished from planet.
DeleteI am sure we will gradually get accustomed to this new way of life; and before long, someone testing positive will also go away from headlines.
Vaccines are the only way forward, like for all other diseases we have seen. But since this is an evolving scenario, vaccines are also a work in progress.
Meanwhile, the least we can do is to take maximum care.
I noticed your absence! I'm glad you're back. You were definitely missed. Stay masked!
ReplyDeleteI was hearing that booster vaccine dose will be prepared for this variant. Hope it doesn't spread as wide as the second wave. Imagine what it should be like for people dependent on travel business.

Hi Rajesh - That's right. One German doctor was on TV and he said we will have to keep taking vaccines at regular intervals for at least five years.
DeleteI know, I tried to find information on travel to and from India on the day when Omicron emerged and was very puzzled to find International flights were re-starting. Glad you got ome time off.
ReplyDeleteTravel plans have been disrupted the world over.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry your schedule has been so hectic. Be well and stay safe!
ReplyDeleteHere we go again, Pradeep. Keep well! Have a great festive season if you can!
ReplyDeleteHi Pradeep - I hope all is well and you're managing ... take care and I hope see you around soon. We're all in limbo at the moment - all tottering along here - cheers Hilary
