In the wardrobe, there are clothes that were bought many months or even years ago, but have never been worn even once!
But the buying spree continues; and the wardrobe is not just always full, but it's always overflowing!
No, this is not the case with me.
Shopping can be addictive. Someone said it's even therapeutic. You feel very good post-shopping.
If someone has bought a garment, it's because s/he liked it, and therefore wanted to wear it.
But then, why s/he doesn't wear it after buying it?
I know friends who keep falling into this trap of "clothes-purchase spree".
Perfectly understandable. Likes and dislikes are very transient, often subject to the influence of mood, ambience, peer group, etc.
Many of my such friends, make it a point not to pile up these brand-new, untouched, unused clothes in the wardrobe. They give them away to someone who likes them / wants them.
A good practice worth emulating.

Not an issue for me. I don't buy that many clothes. (It's hard to find clothes. They don't really cater to my size.)

ReplyDeleteI have not bought new in many years; why, when all I own already are still intact and fine?! That said, there are certainly items that have not been worn for some time and must definitely be passed on to others - or donated. YAM xx

Stores are very intelligent. That is why they invented credit cards. If they accept only cash, people will not go for buying spree. It is just like casinos use only chips.
ReplyDeleteTrue. Think before you buy! Online shopping has made shopping more addictive. Almost effortless shopping.
ReplyDeleteMy mum is guilty of this and has a wardrobe stuffed full of clothes - many unworn or barely worn. She now has to start clearing it and it's a huge job. I don't impulse buy - and rarely buy new clothes these days - I'm becoming a fan of thrift shop buying instead.
ReplyDeleteGuilty as charged hence i started clearing them..i didn't wear many some due to change of likings and some due to change of body 😄 now am in clearance spree.

It happens with me too .....I buy and then i don't wear .....ultimately after keeping for 4-5 years i give them away ......
ReplyDeleteI used to do that a long time ago. Now I don't shop so much because "they don't make wardrobes like they used to". I try to wear what I have...holes and all. I do have a pair of Levis jeans in my closet from over 20 years ago that one day I'm going to get my butt back into. Visiting from A2Z and just wanted to thank you for visiting me.

That is what I do. Give them away/
ReplyDeleteAn excellent post and soooo true.
ReplyDeleteI have had friends who have spent large sums for clothes they never went. I dont know how someone feels good after spending money for things unneeded. I purchase what we need and try to find clothing that will last and is wearable in many seasons.
Cheers stay cool all of you are having extreme heat - how about a very cool wardrobe.

I prefer to be more prudent when buying clothes. I want to get something I'll wear over and over again!
ReplyDeleteWith cold season extending over 6 to 8 months in my part of the world, my wardrobe has frozen to sub zero level of purchasing. It is getting used to this low activity and lack of colours and variety!
ReplyDeleteI am not much of a clothing shopper. I tend to buy something and wear it for many years. My closet is full, but it seems I keep wearing the same things over and over.
ReplyDeleteI’m not much of a clothes shopper. It yet my closet is full - mostly of stuff I never wear but don’t won’t to get rid of.
